Here's everything you need to know before starting your tattoo removal journey.
When a tattoo is applied, ink is deposited into the dermis layer of the skin. The ink particles are too large for the body’s immune system to remove, which is why tattoos are designed to be permanent. Over time, some fading may occur, but the ink largely remains in place.
Laser tattoo removal targets these ink particles using pulses of laser light. The pigment absorbs the light, causing a rapid heat and pressure reaction known as a photo-acoustic effect. This breaks the ink into tiny fragments. Once the particles are small enough, your body’s immune system specifically the white blood cells can gradually flush them out through the lymphatic system.
Our minimum charge for a treatment is $100. Treatment cost depends on a variety of factors such as size, placement of the tattoo, colours used, your skin type and the age of your tattoo. The full cost of your treatments will be discussed during your initial FREE Consultation.
The number of treatments required for complete tattoo removal varies depending on several factors, including tattoo size, ink colours, skin type, your body’s response to the treatment and individual immune system factors. On average, it may take anywhere from 6-12 treatments for complete removal. To lighten a tattoo for a cover up, it may only take 2-4 treatments depending on your new tattoo cover up idea.
While everyone’s pain tolerance is different, laser tattoo removal is often described as feeling like a rubber band flicking against the skin. The great thing is, laser tattoo removal treatments are much quicker than getting the tattoo so the pain is very short lived. A Topical numbing cream such as Dr. Numb can be used (1.5 hrs prior to treatment) to make the process a lot more comfortable. We also use the latest Zimmer Cryo 7 cooling system that blows cold air on the skin before, during and after your treatment to reduce and help with any discomfort during the tattoo removal process.
Yes, once the tattoo has been significantly faded you can get a new tattoo in the same area. We recommend waiting a minimum of 6-8 weeks after your last laser treatment before tattooing over the same area. We also work with some of the best tattoo artists, cosmetic tattooist and SMP tattooist in Australia that we can refer you to for a consultation once we finished your laser tattoo removal process.
We recommend waiting 8 weeks between sessions to allow your skin the proper time to heal and for your body to flush out the fragmented ink. This healing period helps maximise fading and ensures your next session is as effective and safe as possible.
There are several important factors to consider before undergoing laser tattoo removal. We’ll discuss everything in detail during your consultation and again on the day of your treatment, but here are a few key points to keep in mind:
Sun Exposure & Fake Tan
Your skin must be free from recent sun exposure or tanning. If your skin is tanned, we’ll need to wait at least 2 weeks for it to return to its natural tone. Fake tans should be removed before your treatments, as they can interfere with the laser’s effectiveness.
Food & Water
Make sure you’re well-hydrated and have eaten a meal before your appointment. While treatments are quick, being properly nourished and hydrated helps your body handle the session more comfortably and can prevent dizziness or light-headedness.
Pregnancy & Breastfeeding
We are unable to perform laser treatments while you are pregnant or breastfeeding, as these are contraindicated for your safety.
Medications
If you are currently taking any medications that make your skin sensitive to light, this will effect the tattoo removal process. We will discuss this further during your consultation.
Our aftercare plan is a crucial part of achieving the best results from your tattoo removal journey. We’ll tailor it to your skin and treatment specifics, but there are a few essential guidelines to follow:
Our Recommended Aftercare:
Keep it cool & clean: Avoid friction, heat and bacteria in the treated area during the healing process.
No heat or sweat: Refrain from exercise, saunas, or anything that may cause sweating for the first 24 hours.
Apply a cool compress: In the first 24 hours, a cold compress can help reduce swelling, bruising, and discomfort—these are all normal post-treatment effects.
Use recommended creams: Apply a post-laser cream twice daily for the first 2 weeks.
Protect from sun exposure: Avoid direct sun exposure and apply SPF daily. Physically covering the area is preferred for the first 2 weeks.
Don’t scratch: The area may feel like a sunburn and become itchy as it heals. Avoid scratching and use a cool compress to soothe irritation or re-apply post-laser cream as needed.
Support your body: Maintaining a healthy diet and staying well-hydrated can significantly support your skin’s healing and improve ink fading between sessions.
